Middle Fork Aviation

After starting a career in aviation that advanced from lineman, to mechanic, to charter pilot, Pete Nelson established Middle Fork Aviation with his wife and business partner, Shiley. Starting a charter service on the edge of Idaho’s Wilderness brought them home to Challis, Idaho to raise a family.  Ten years later, Middle Fork Aviation is one of the premier aviation services in the region, providing charter flights, aircraft maintenance, fuel services, mountain flying training and friendly advice to pilots passing through. Contact us for quotes, questions or to just say hi.

Pete and Shiley Nelson, and the staff at Middle Fork Aviation are down-to-earth folks who enjoy safely flying people and cargo into the backcountry. They are safe, careful and look out for each other and fellow pilots like family. Fly Idaho’s Backcountry with Middle Fork Aviation.

News and Announcements

2008 Mountain Flying Clinic

June 5 - 8, 2008
Challis, Idaho

Each year Middle Fork Aviation teaches a popular Mountain Flying Clinic with a focus on teaching safe mountain flying techniques while  orientating pilots to the wilderness airstrips of our area. To keep the experience fun, educational and personal, we limit the clinic to 12 students (additional students can attend ground classes), so a deposit and early registration is strongly recommended.

Our training is thorough with a focus on experiential learning. It is great training for pilots with basic to advanced skills. The atmosphere is casual––with lunches in the hanger and group dinners at Pete and Shiley’s house. We round out every pilot’s learning experience with classroom experience and hanger talk over a cold one when the day is done.

Don’t be discouraged if you are late seeing this announcement. Our seminar attracts VFR pilots from around the country and weather cancellations can create last minute openings. For more information and registration, go the Mountain Flying Clinic web page.
